| 1733 Potosi mint (in present day Bolivia) 2 Reales cob, 22 x 29 mm. The date "733" is between the base of the two crowned pillars, and above the waves. The denomination "2" and "PLVS VLTRA" (Latin for "More Beyond") are above the date. The pillars represent the Pillars of Hercules (at the Strait of Gilbraltar, thought to mark the limits of the World. The waves represent the ocean. "More Beyond" attests to the Spanish discovery of the Americas, beyond the Old World. |
