1814/3 (overdate) Popayan mint, 8 Reales. Worth one dollar in the early years of the U.S.

Mintmark "P", Assayer JF.

Ferdinand VII of Spain.

Largest silver coin minted by Spain. Known as a "piece of eight" (that is, a piece of 8 Reales).

Diameter: 41 mm.

8 Reales Reverse  

 

1819 Bogota mint, 1 Real.

Mintmark "NR" (Nuevo Reino), Assayer FJ. The J of the assayer's mark is inverted - this is a scarce variety.

Diameter: 19.5 mm.
