The club was founded in 1986 by a group of numismatists with widely varied interests.

We host the Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association (PNNA) Coin Show in Portland, now in the fall (was in Portland in the Spring 1995-1999) - the next Fall PNNA show is October 23-24, 2010. We were the host club for the American Numismatic Association's (ANA) World's Fair of Money in 1998, and the National Money Show in Portland in 2004 and 2009.

October 23-25, 2009, was the Fifth Annual Willamette-PNNA coin show at the Lloyd Center DoubleTree Hotel in Portland Oregon. It was a very busy and successful Saturday (sunny weather) followed by a much slower Sunday (and rain). Many thanks to the excellent work of the entire group - a great group of volunteers. We have several exhibits, a treasure trivia and a scout coin collecting merit badge clinic. The scout clinic had seven scouts earn the merit badges, and the YN Treasure Trivia was successfully completed by about two dozen youth. Thank you to Katie Reinders who created 18 questions for the contest, involved dealers, coached the participants and ran treasure trivia both days. She did a great job stepping in, at the last minute, for Walt Ostromecki who was unable to make it to Portland.
